The Knights Templar were found to be rather wealthy, and massed great wealth by loaning money to kings of Europe. One such King was Phillip the fair. Phillip and Pope Clement the V conspired to get rid of the Templar's on Friday October 13 1307.
The Order was officially disbanded by papal bull by 1312 with the Last Grand Master being executed in 1314 (Jacques De Molay). It is widely held that in order to get out of debt and seize the wealth of the Templar's, thus nullifying outstanding debt owed to the order. Some of the charges leveled against them were homosexual acts or acts of sodomy, and devil worship.
