Solar Control Glass
Light rays are distorted when traveling through any medium, including air, water, and glass. For example, light travels slower through water than it does through air. Dense mediums cause light to travel slower, and even denser mediums can block entirely the rays of light that the sun emits. The goal of a quality window is to limit the harmful rays that the sun produces while not restricting its light.
Solar control glass, an amazing innovation created in the past century, does just that. It restricts the sun's harmful rays while not significantly preventing its visible light. Solar control glass is coated and / or tinted glass that decreases the total solar heat gain transmitted through it, prevents a considerable amount of UV rays from entering an area, and creates privacy.
Homes, commercial buildings, and automobiles manufacturers all over the world have used solar control glass to make their users more comfortable and their valuables safer.
What does solar control glass do?
1. Reduces temperature
Solar heat gain is the change of temperature in a space due to the sun. Solar heat gain rises as the sun's radiation increases or as a medium's ability to resist the strength of the sun's rays decreases. In other words, a medium in between the sun and a space that restricts the sun's rays will prevent an increase in temperature in that space.
Solar control glass restricts the amount of solar heat radiation traveling through the glass, and thus keeps the room's temperature comfortable without significantly restricting the amount of light passing through.
Without solar control glass, the sun often causes uneven temperature in a room. The areas that the sun shines directly on will have a higher temperature than the areas that are in the shade. Solar control glass helps make a room's temperature uniform.
Furthermore, by conveniently keeping temperature manageable, solar control glass helps building administrators and homeowners keep their utility costs low. By using tinted windows, families and companies have been able to substantially cut their air conditioning bill in the summer months.
2. Reduces glare.
Unlike normal windows, solar control glass also cuts down visual glare, making it perfect for residential and commercial buildings. With solar control glass, residents and employees no longer have to squint to see the television or computer screen because of light from the sun.
3. Protects furniture and fabric from harmful UV rays.
Furniture can be damaged by direct sunlight, especially in a room with a window that faces south. Ultraviolet (UV) rays are neither felt nor seen, but they are the main reason furniture and fabrics fade. In fact, ordinary windows allow approximately 90% of UV rays to pass through.
Fortunately, solar control glass absorbs many of the sun's UV rays, protecting furniture from the sun's harmful light significantly better than ordinary windows do.
4. Creates privacy and protects valuables from theft
Many automobiles have solar control windows. Sometimes, it is for the sole purpose of privacy. For example, when limousines cruise down the highway, onlookers can almost never see what or who is inside.
Because tinted windows are darker and more reflective than other types of glass, solar control glass helps families and office workers keep their private things … private.

i have to ask more questions:how should to converging lenses be placed so that a parallel beam becomes parallel after passing through two lenses?
A lens works by the difference in refractive index between the material in the lens and the surrounding medium. So a lens put in a medium that has exactly the same refractive index would not be a lens, it wouldn't bend light at all.
The second question I'm not so sure of. If you had a concave lens followed by a convex lens of the same curvature, the result might be that they canceled each other out.
